The National Assembly is exploring options as concerns grow over where to host President Muhammadu Buhari for the presentation of the 2023 budget amid the ongoing renovation of the Senate and House of Representatives chambers.

Parliament expects President Buhari to present next year’s budget estimates in the first week of October.

But the physical presentation of the proposed budget of N19.76 trillion by Buhari to the joint session of the National Assembly is uncertain due to the ongoing remodeling of the chambers, which has resulted in the relocation of federal lawmakers to chambers. fortune for the plenary.

Senate Speaker Ahmad Lawan said that although the National Assembly was awaiting the president for the presentation of the 2023 budget estimates, the ongoing renovations created a challenge as to where to accommodate him.

Lawan, while speaking to reporters after inspecting renovations to the temporary Senate sitting venue, however, said the matter would be dealt with before the end of the month.

The presentation of the budget usually takes place in the chamber of the House of Representatives, which accommodates 360 legislators.

The improvised chamber of the Chamber in room 0.28 of the new building only has a capacity of 118 places. It is expanded by an upper deck layout in room 231 with a capacity of 236 seats. The rooms are audio-visually connected with large screens.

The Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, had, before the resumption, revealed that there were no designated seats apart from the allocation to Speakers and principal officers. “Therefore, all other seating arrangements are based on arrivals.”

Speaking to one of our correspondents on the phone, Danzaria said the National Assembly was working on an arrangement for the presentation of President Buhari’s 2023 budget.
