Opinion: I’m a very transient human being, which means it’s only recently that I’ve found a place to feel at home.
Flat life is fun and social, and while you long for well-organized closets and refrigerators, you know that when you share a space with several other people, it just doesn’t happen.
However, my new home brought with it a new sense of organizational pride and wanting things to look and feel neat and tidy.
While I don’t consider myself super creative, I’ve always enjoyed labeling and making lists, so when I was asked to try out a Cricut Joy, I was intrigued by its usefulness.

A friend of mine has a Cricut machine and uses it to do so many things, even helping to organize another friend’s wedding by making signs and seating plans.
When I first received the machine I was pretty overwhelmed. I don’t know what I thought it would be like to use, but initially I was very confused as to how to create even a simple design.
However, after watching a few YouTube videos, I figured it out and realized that it was actually pretty straightforward.
So I touched on five things that I think might be helpful for people living in lockdown, showing ideas on ways you can organize your home and your life.
Rearrange and label your pantry
Moving into a new house, we were downstairs with our pantry, which meant the only way to go was up.
Our collection of pantry items were all from different brands, so we needed a uniform.
Instead of spending a lot of money already on containers with labels, we went to Kmart and bought containers to label with the Cricut machine.
We had 15 containers in all, and it didn’t take long to create a label for each one in the exact font, size, and color we wanted.
I can’t underestimate the joy it gave me to see all my containers lined up and labeled.
Organize your fridge
I originally saw a very organized refrigerator on TikTok, and it really got me excited.
So when I got the Cricut machine, I decided it was the perfect time, before loading our fridge with several bottles of sauce and things we didn’t need, to label it.
If you are a normal human with things already in your fridge, I strongly encourage you to take everything out to do this.
Then you can clean out the fridge, throw out any stale or just don’t use sauces, and organize it a bit.
Ten out of ten would recommend.
Olive oil jars
I love all kinds of sauces, but olive oil and oils are close to my heart.
We use a lot of different sauces and oils in our cooking, but I hate the ugly bottles that they all come in.
So to create a bit of uniformity in my oil and sauce life and make it more aesthetic, I transferred all the sauces and oils to see-through bottles, labeling them accordingly.
Make an acrylic wall planner
I love to make lists and be organized, but making my own acrylic wall planner was something I had never thought of doing before.
But with Cricut it’s super easy, you just cut out all of your pieces and then glue them onto a piece of acrylic the size you need.
Using acrylic means you can write things on them to remember them and then wipe them off when they’re done.
Having a visual representation of what’s to come gives you something to look forward to and helps you stay organized, even if that’s just what you’re having dinner that week.
Stock up on cards to use for special occasions
I like to give people cards and I like to receive cards.
However, most of the time I’m unorganized and run to stores at the last minute for a card so that might not be exactly what I want.
But with it, you can make your own card for every occasion, and it’s super easy.
So while you are locked out you can make multiple birthday cards, Christmas cards and stack them for when you need them.
While you can’t be physically anywhere right now, sending a card is a good way to remind people that you are thinking of them.
