Personal security is a growing concern: Nine million Internet households in the United States report using smart beacons

DALLAS, November 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Parks Associates today released a new white paper, Leveraging technology to improve safety and security in schools, highlighting information on how schools can better respond to security threats using fast-acting access control and emergency response combined with communicated information.

“Technology plays a critical role in keeping schools safe,” said Elizabeth Parks, President and Chief Marketing Officer, Parks Associates. “The ability of technology to identify suspicious activity, spot dangerous items, recognize patterns and organize data/evidence is particularly powerful and can enable more effective threat response.”

In general, personal safety concerns, especially regarding children, have increased in the United States. Parks Associates research shows that approximately nine million US internet households (8%) have a smart tag and 37% of those owners use smart tags because they are concerned about the safety of others, with 32% saying that their child always has smart etiquette with them. Parents and school educators are looking for new solutions to help protect children in school.

“Technology cannot guarantee a flawless defense against security breaches and threats, but it can help provide a more effective response,” said august quarter, research intern, Parks Associates. “This is an important project to help elevate the role of technology in responding to security threats in schools.”

“Technology has brought more and more information to our first responders – security cameras, two-way radios, remote sensors, panic buttons. Mutualink’s mission is to enable these technologies to respond quickly and efficiently by bringing the right information to the right people at the right time,” said Marc Hatton, CEO, Mutualink. “We are grateful that Parks Associates has recognized the importance of a rapid and coordinated response to events in schools.”

“It is extremely important that a more integrated approach to electronic safety is adopted by schools to create safer environments for our children,” said Kirk McDowellPresident, MacGuard Security Advisors Inc. “Supporting efforts like these, and SIA’s PASS guidelines to inform the education sector on physical security implementation, is necessary to drive change.”
