The Lugia V/VSTAR combo in Silver Tempest is definitely one of the most desirable cards in the set. The Pokemon Silver The mascot is a perennial fan favorite and offers a powerful V. Read the Wind lets you discard a card and draw three for a single energy, while charging it with four energy of any type and Aero Dive can deal 130 damage per turn. without limits, while allowing you to throw any stadium in play.
Raise that up to VSTAR and Tempest Dive performs the same stadium destroying attack, but this time with 220 damage. Its VSTAR power, Summoning Star, allows you to pull a few Normal-type Pokemon (without rules boxes) from your discard pile and return them to your bench.
Which is utterly charming, but of course collectors seek it not only for its in-game power, but also for the beauty of its variants. There is a Full Art V, as well as Rainbow Rare and Gold Rare versions of the VSTAR. But the most desired, and in fact the most desired of the whole set, is the Lugia V Alt Art.
It’s recovered a ridiculous $314, and is all over eBay for around $300, just three days after the set was officially released, meaning we don’t even have a clue what the PSA 10s will go for. Given the similarly priced cards in recent sets, we’re probably looking at well over $1,000 for the graded card.
The map is unequivocally beautiful, Kawayoo’s distinctive painted style looks amazing in muted blues and greens against a predominantly gray scene. But prices like this are always silly.
